National Socialist statesman and Minister for Foreign Affairs since 1938
Ribbentrop joined the Nazi party in 1932. In 1933 he set up the Ribbentrop Bureau under Hess' secretariat in opposition to the German Foreign Ministry. In May 1935 he concluded the Anglo-German Naval Treaty, and in 1936 persuaded Japan to join the Anti-Comintern Pact. In February 1938, after dismissing von Neurath, Hitler appointed Ribbentrop as Foreign Minister. He signed the Ribbentrop-Molotov agreement with Russia in August 1939. He retained his office during the World War II. After the war he was brought to trial in Nuremberg, and was sentenced to death.
